At the peak of her career, Jane Vaux gave up her job in social services, uprooted her life in Oxford, and moved to Devon to delve into painting. The gamble paid off, because today the Wembury-based artist is selling and exhibiting her increasingly popular work across the county.
"I had always done art, but I started getting serious about it five or six years ago," she explained. "I got into it because I realised there was no creative part of my life, and the pressure of work stifled the possibilty. I realised I had to do something about it."
After a breif stint at Sunningwell School of Art, in Oxford, Jane, who had felt confined by the course curriculum, took lodgings in a flat near the sea and let her creativity loose on canvas.
"I felt caged at art school and I knew I needed to do my own thing, so I went to the sea and that is how it started," she said. "Since then I have focused entirely on art and have followed my own style. I moved to Devon in 2007, and last summer I started selling through small local outlets and printers....
