My favorite part of the day is when the sun is setting, juat at the point when the sun fuses with the sea and liberates the most glorious deep orange hues. I'm grateful to Jane for inspiring me to capture the sentiment in acrylics.

This is my very first attempt at holding a paintbrush, I joined Jane's class five weeks ago. I completed this painting in 3 sessions and have just finished my second. Jane is much more than a teacher, in the short time I have known her I have learnt that art is not about being good or perfect, but about how it makes me feel. She is encouraging, inspirational and has given me the confidence to simply enjoy the process.

Until I met Jane I had never attemted to paint in acrylics; in fact, the mere suggestion that I should try caused me to laugh uncontrollably. But try I did, persuaded and instructed by Jane, who has patience unbounded, and convinced me that it was worth persevering when my confidence was wavering. That was in February 2008, and this is my sixth painting. I paint frequently now, and it is an activity that seems to have taken over my life in a dramatic manner.
